Challenges

I have always had a hard time coming up with my own designs. Splitcoast Stampers has become my saving grace by providing well documented, well organized samples of all kinds. However, recently I have felt incouraged to branch out and challenge myself.

Last night I copied a number of Color Challanges and a number of Inspiration Challenge and am going to try to do as many as I can this weekend. Check back for updates and pictures.

I see where you are coming from on this- because I used to think so too. That if I copied or based my work on something I saw that I wasn't being orignal. And design/ layout for me is the hardest part so using a sketch makes my job so much easier. But sometimes I wondered why I couldn't just design these wonderful cards off the top of my head.

But 2 years ago an artist published in Somerset Studio told me she uses the same basic layouts over and over. And months later a friend told me when she was in art school in some of her classes they had to copy the work of the masters to master new techniques.

And now I have learned to mix it- sometimes I do my own thing (with varying degrees of success) and other times I use a sketch or let a card inspire me which allows me to concentrate on details and let me enjoy the process more fully. Sorry this was so long.
